Updates

I haven’t updated in a while, partially because I’ve been exhausted recently – Andrea decided for a few weeks that she would wake up every 2-3 hours all night long. I think we’re back to a more reasonable schedule though, where she sleeps for one 5-6 hour stretch, then wakes every 2-3 hours after that. Much better. 🙂

I got a great book called “The Wonder Weeks” that describes babies’ developmental milestones, and 12 weeks is a common period for rapid brain development. Just as the book said, she had a cranky, restless couple of weeks, and now she has all kinds of new skills! She grabs her feet, blows bubbles, makes a lot of new sounds, and bats at toys. She is also rolling over from her tummy to her back pretty consistently, although I haven’t managed to catch it on the video camera yet. She also enjoys staring at herself endlessly in the mirror. I bought a mirror for her crib and she loves it.

So, sorry the past few weeks have been quiet. Hopefully I can get back to updating more frequently. And we’ll get some more pictures posted soon!

2 months!

Andrea turned 2 months old today. Unfortunately, that means we started the day off with her first round of vaccines. We declined the Hepatitis B vaccine for now (infants don’t usually get STDs), but that still left 4 shots and and oral vaccine for rotovirus. It was awful – she cried so hard – broke Mommy’s heart.

We also found out just how much Andrea has grown since her 3 week appointment. She went from 9 pounds 1/2 ounce to 11 pounds 5 ounces. She also went from 22 inches to 24 inches – that’s the 95 percentile! She’s gonna be a tall girl. The doctor was also impressed with how well she is holding her head up. Our baby is really growing up.  🙂

Movin’ on up!

Andrea had another big first this week – she slept overnight in her crib for the first time. She had taken a nap in her crib a couple of times before, but she has been sleeping in her cradle next to Mom & Dad’s bed at nights. Tuesday night Andrea fell asleep around 11:00, and Mom put her in her crib. She slept like a champ and didn’t wake up until 5am! Mom fed her and she was asleep again by 5:45 and slept until 9:30. Apparently she liked her crib, because this is the best she’s ever slept overnight. Mom is thrilled!

Trip to Missouri

We spent a long weekend in Missouri visiting lots of relatives. Andrea got to see all four of her great-grandparents, plus lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Saturday we went to Grant’s Farm in St. Louis and rode the train around with her Great-Grandad Carl, who used to drive a train at Grant’s Farm. He gave us some inside info he remembered from his days working there. It was REALLY hot and sunny, so Andrea stayed in her carseat and stroller with the cover up once we got off the train, so she didn’t see much, but she was a real trooper – sleeping through the brutal temperatures.

Saturday night, we went to a party at Great Aunt Becky & Great Uncle Robert’s house. Everyone wanted to see Andrea and take turns holding her. Her cousin Bryan liked holding her so much there was a line of people waiting to take her from him at one point. 🙂

After the party we drove to Columbia to see the Blount side of the family.  We arrived at her great-grandparents’ house around midnight. Her Great-Grandad stayed up to see her the moment we arrived. Andrea slept good that night in her Pack n Play and woke up around 7:00 Sunday morning. Her Great Grandad and Grandmother got to spend about an hour with her right after she woke up when she is so alert and happy, so they got to see lots of smiles and hear a lot of baby talk. We went out for lunch and dinner with the whole family, and she slept through both meals (as usual), but everyone got to see her back and her great-grandparents house. Aunt Susan loved holding her and would only give her back to Mom when it was time to eat. We were afraid they may not let us take Andrea back home!

We left Monday after breakfast and drove all the way back to Atlanta, getting in just after midnight. We stopped a few times to eat and feed Andrea. She stayed awake for a few hours in the car, so she slept well once we got home. It was a big weekend for a little girl!

On a roll

We had a big day today. First, Andrea rolled over from her stomach to her back for the first time! She did it during some “tummy time” before Dad left for work, so he got to see. She’s most active and alert first thing in the morning, so we were taking some time to enjoy her happiest time of day when all of a sudden she rolled over. She seemed surprised, so we probably won’t see it again for a while.

Then, Mom decided a little later that we should go to Missouri for the weekend to see the relatives. Dad left work early and we got on the road before rush-hour. It was Andrea’s longest road trip yet, and she went through several states she had never been to: Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri. She slept almost the whole drive, except for a couple stops to eat at a McDonalds near Chattanooga, TN and a rest stop in Paducah, KY.

We got into St. Louis late Friday night (actually, early Saturday morning) and she slept in bed with Mom and Dad at her Great Uncle Chuck & Great Aunt Becky Rose’s house. We set up the Pack n Play for her, but she had been sleeping all day and didn’t like being laid down in her bed. She slept great in Mom’s arms though. 🙂

Take me out to the ballgame…

Last night, Andrea went to a minor league baseball game – Asheville Tourists vs. Rome Braves. Connie & Thor’s friend David Christensen plays for the Asheville Tourists, so we drove up to Rome, GA to watch a game. Thor & his girlfriend met us up there. We all had a lot of fun, and Andrea was so good! She sat on Thor’s lap and they entertained each other for a while, then she ate, napped a little, and woke up just in time to watch legendary Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz pitch for the Rome Braves in the 8th inning (rehab practice for him). The Asheville Tourists won the game, and we spent a few minutes visiting with David after the game before driving home at almost midnight. What a big day for a little girl!
