Trip to Missouri

We spent a long weekend in Missouri visiting lots of relatives. Andrea got to see all four of her great-grandparents, plus lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Saturday we went to Grant’s Farm in St. Louis and rode the train around with her Great-Grandad Carl, who used to drive a train at Grant’s Farm. He gave us some inside info he remembered from his days working there. It was REALLY hot and sunny, so Andrea stayed in her carseat and stroller with the cover up once we got off the train, so she didn’t see much, but she was a real trooper – sleeping through the brutal temperatures.

Saturday night, we went to a party at Great Aunt Becky & Great Uncle Robert’s house. Everyone wanted to see Andrea and take turns holding her. Her cousin Bryan liked holding her so much there was a line of people waiting to take her from him at one point. 🙂

After the party we drove to Columbia to see the Blount side of the family.  We arrived at her great-grandparents’ house around midnight. Her Great-Grandad stayed up to see her the moment we arrived. Andrea slept good that night in her Pack n Play and woke up around 7:00 Sunday morning. Her Great Grandad and Grandmother got to spend about an hour with her right after she woke up when she is so alert and happy, so they got to see lots of smiles and hear a lot of baby talk. We went out for lunch and dinner with the whole family, and she slept through both meals (as usual), but everyone got to see her back and her great-grandparents house. Aunt Susan loved holding her and would only give her back to Mom when it was time to eat. We were afraid they may not let us take Andrea back home!

We left Monday after breakfast and drove all the way back to Atlanta, getting in just after midnight. We stopped a few times to eat and feed Andrea. She stayed awake for a few hours in the car, so she slept well once we got home. It was a big weekend for a little girl!

On a roll

We had a big day today. First, Andrea rolled over from her stomach to her back for the first time! She did it during some “tummy time” before Dad left for work, so he got to see. She’s most active and alert first thing in the morning, so we were taking some time to enjoy her happiest time of day when all of a sudden she rolled over. She seemed surprised, so we probably won’t see it again for a while.

Then, Mom decided a little later that we should go to Missouri for the weekend to see the relatives. Dad left work early and we got on the road before rush-hour. It was Andrea’s longest road trip yet, and she went through several states she had never been to: Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri. She slept almost the whole drive, except for a couple stops to eat at a McDonalds near Chattanooga, TN and a rest stop in Paducah, KY.

We got into St. Louis late Friday night (actually, early Saturday morning) and she slept in bed with Mom and Dad at her Great Uncle Chuck & Great Aunt Becky Rose’s house. We set up the Pack n Play for her, but she had been sleeping all day and didn’t like being laid down in her bed. She slept great in Mom’s arms though. 🙂

Take me out to the ballgame…

Last night, Andrea went to a minor league baseball game – Asheville Tourists vs. Rome Braves. Connie & Thor’s friend David Christensen plays for the Asheville Tourists, so we drove up to Rome, GA to watch a game. Thor & his girlfriend met us up there. We all had a lot of fun, and Andrea was so good! She sat on Thor’s lap and they entertained each other for a while, then she ate, napped a little, and woke up just in time to watch legendary Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz pitch for the Rome Braves in the 8th inning (rehab practice for him). The Asheville Tourists won the game, and we spent a few minutes visiting with David after the game before driving home at almost midnight. What a big day for a little girl!

Memorial Day weekend

Kelley’s dad came in town for the weekend and he and Thor installed a fence in our backyard. It looks awesome! Andrea spent a lot of time with Mom out in the shade while the guys worked. She really likes being outside – looking at the trees and feeling the breeze.

Saturday evening while we waited for the cement to dry around the fence posts we went to the lake where Thor keeps the boat and took Andrea on her first boat ride. Even though she didn’t go in the water, we dressed her up in the cutest little bikini and swimsuit cover-up that we were given. She looked adorable! (I’ll add a picture here as soon as we get them off the camera.) She nursed most of the time while Thor wakesurfed and we toured the lake, because she’s going through a bit of a growth spurt the past few days, but she seemed to enjoy the boat. She wasn’t even phased when water sprayed on her or when the wind blew her little bit of hair around.

For Memorial Day itself, we’re just planning to lay low at our house while Dad and Thor install laminate flooring in Thor’s condo. We already packed enough into Andrea’s weekend that we could all use a break.

Busy day!

Our friends Darryn and Ellen are in town this weekend to visit us and see Andrea, and Paul’s cousin Kim drove down to visit also, so we took our guests to the Georgia Aquarium today. It was Andrea’s first outing in her stroller (other than a little walk down the street) and her first trip to the Aquarium of course. She is a little too young to enjoy the fish, but she really liked the staring at the lights. She especially loved the color-changing lights in the atrium and the blue glow of the big jellyfish exhibit. 🙂

Then in the evening, we took Andrea to her first wedding! One of Kelley’s friends from Emory was getting married at the Chapel at Glenn Memorial UMC on Emory’s campus. We all got dressed up and went to the wedding and the reception at the Michael C. Carlos Museum (also at Emory). It was an extra special wedding, because Kelley’s friend Susan was the minister. In between the wedding and dinner, Andrea took a bottle of breastmilk from Dad! She took to it right away and drank well. We won’t be doing that often, but it will be nice to have the option of using an occassional bottle. The table we found at the reception was right by the band, so it was quite loud, but Andrea slept in her sling right through the whole thing, so Mom had her hands free. Yay!

We came home exhausted from our long day, and after feeding Andrea, we both fell sound asleep for six straight hours – from 11pm to 5am! She slept this long a couple days before, but it was from about 9pm-3am and Mom didn’t go to sleep at the same time, so it wasn’t as refreshing for Mom.

Smiles!

Andrea gave Mom her first real smile early in the morning on May 12th, one day before her 1 month birthday. And a couple days later, Dad saw her give him a real smile.

UPDATE: It took us a while to capture this adorable smile with a camera, so we didn’t start getting pictures of it for another week or two. But now that we have pictures, it’s pretty exciting!
