Visit from Opa

It was a busy weekend so I fell behind in my updates a little, but I have a lot of pictures to post so here goes! As I mentioned in a previous post, Paul’s dad was here last week. We went to the Pumpkin Patch when he first arrived, then he went to work with Paul during the week so we didn’t get to do much. Then Friday, when Andrea was off school, we met Paul & Opa for lunch and then took Opa with us to the Imagine It! Children’s Museum of Atlanta. We have a membership there because Andrea loves it so much, and I knew Andrea would love showing off all the cool exhibits and things to her Opa. I didn’t realize Opa would have as much fun as Andrea though. 🙂 I got some great pictures of Andrea with her Daddy and her Opa on Thursday night before we took Opa out for dinner, and a lot more on Friday on our trip to the Children’s Museum. We had a great week, and hated to say goodbye to Opa so soon, but at least we’ll be seeing Opa, Oma, and the rest of our families soon over the holidays.

Rhino!

My goal is to start posting something cute that Andrea does or says every day. I’ll start with something from yesterday.

We were at the airport in Detroit after visiting our friends Dana and Hannah (pictures from the trip are here), and we stopped for a pre-flight snack and drink at Max & Ermas. On the wall, was a big sign with this logo:

Andrea pointed to it and said, “Rhino!”

I said, “Very good! That’s a rhino.”

Then Andrea exclaimed, “He’s stuck! He’s stuck in an ‘O’!” Followed by, “He’s sad…” in a very sympathetic tone. I had to reassure her that the rhino wasn’t stuck and that he liked the O. Hahaha. 😉

Also, while we were eating, she could see the tram go by overhead every couple of minutes, and every single time, she yelled, “Another train!” LOL So after we ate, we went and rode on the train from one end of the terminal to the other, and back again, since we were already right by our gate. She loved it. She kept saying, “Faster, faster!” and “Again, again!” Everyone on the train was giggling.

Two Years Old!

Andrea is now two years old. It’s hard to believe that two years have already passed since she was born.

She is talking up a storm, and often using full sentences. She is also memorizing entire pages from some of her favorite books. Last night we were at dinner and a baby was crying and she looked at us and said, “That little baby is crying,” very matter-of-factly. Then last night when we were going to bed, she picked up one of the new Diego books that she just got last week for her birthday, flipped through the pages, and then said “This is a very muddy place,” which was the first sentence from that page verbatim. I was stunned.

She got an easel for her birthday and has been loving drawing on the chalkboard. She mostly just draws vertical lines though. She may have gotten her creativity from me. LOL She is also getting really interested in coloring and likes to try to color in pictures in her coloring books. I bought her some washable finger paints, but haven’t been brave enough to pull them out yet for her try.

She also got a lot of play food for her birthday and a toy cash register, so she’s been playing with that and her kitchen set more. She’s really getting the hang of make-believe play. She pretends to shop, scans her items, puts them in a basket, and she goes to the sink in her play kitchen and fills things with “water”. She got a tea set and loves to sit and play with the kettle, the cups, and the little desserts that come with it.

Stuffed animals are also still a favorite. She cuddles them, talks to them, puts bracelets and necklaces on them, and is so sweet with them. She was very worried about her Curious George because he had a little hole in his head, and she was so happy that her Oma was able to fix him. This morning she was carrying around her lovey dog, and saying, “What’s wrong, doggie? What’s the matter?” It was so adorable.

She sometimes tries my patience, but at the same time she provides almost constant entertainment. I am forever amused by the things she says and does. I need to post more often to share some of these funny stories.

Andrea’s Christmas Wish List

It’s been a year since I updated this blog, but I really want to get back into it so that people can keep up with Andrea. She is growing like a weed and learning new things every day. For now, I’ll get started with a few things she likes for suggested Christmas presents (if you want some ideas).

  • She loves books (even ones with lots of words!), so she would always appreciate more books. She really likes books about animals, and I like to get her educational books to learn letters, numbers, colors, etc. And she doesn’t have any Dr. Seuss books yet.
  • She is getting this play kitchen set and a table and chairs set for Christmas, so any play food, dishes, or related accessories would be much appreciated. She loves to “help” in the kitchen.
  • She gets to watch a little TV, and likes Curious George, Clifford, Sesame Street, and Barney. She has a lot of stuffed animals, but books, clothes, or other things with these characters would be fun for her.
  • She’s normally my girly-girl, but she also likes some “boyish” things, like cars/boats/trains/airplanes and tools. She has a few little toy cars, but that’s about it.
  • She’s also starting to get interested in doing puzzles, so some more wooden puzzles would be fun.
  • She wears mostly 2T clothes now, except she wears 18 months in a lot of pants still (she’s tall, but apparently it’s all in her head and torso). She probably won’t start wearing 3T clothes until next winter. Also, she wears size 5 shoes now.

I hope that helps! Merry Christmas!
